My research is focused on studying Tbx2 gene (composed of Tbx2a and Tbx2b) during zebrafish cardiac development. Previous studies of Tbx2 demonstrated its importance during atrio-ventricular canal development. I am currently focusing on defining Tbx2 function during chamber development, particularly affecting artial formation. Knockdown of Tbx2 expression during early cardiac development leads to expansion of atrial markers and subsequently to an enlarged atrium. In addition embryos exhibit downregulation of Gata4, 5, and 6 genes.
